Financial Times:
Top Donald Trump official tells Europe to choose between US or Chinese communications tech
FCC chair Brendan Carr urges ‘western allies’ to pick Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet company
How about a big cup of F*C|< YOU instead?
Europe does not need freaking SpaceX or freaking Starlink. You are just a corrupt tool.
@ParadeGrotesque From Karl Bode:
"Hoping to drive billions in subsidies to Elon Musk, FCC boss Brendan Carr is trying to pretend the choice is either between Starlink or dangerous Chinese satellites.
Ignoring that Eutelsat OneWeb, increasingly being used as an alternative by Germany and Ukraine, exists"
@ParadeGrotesque Also from Karl from a post he wrote last month:
"They're also busy trying to redirect as much of the $42.5 billion in infrastructure bill broadband grants to Musk as possible, which will redirect that money away from better, more affordable local ISPs not run by Nazis."
We’ve often noted how there are $42.5 billion in broadband…
TechdirtAnd let us not forget the FAA using Starlink despite it being a Bad Idea (tm)!
@ParadeGrotesque @joeo10 What can possibly go wrong?
Aircraft falling off the sky like Starlink satellites are doing now? Surely that's not a problem?
Oh, worse: air traffic controllers need to communicate with each other. All communications will now go through Starlink instead of dedicated fiber as before.
Potential consequences are left as an exercise for the reader...
@ParadeGrotesque @joeo10 And naturally...
Muskrat: "This airport did not worship Me sufficiently when my private jet landed. Starlink will not let them communicate"
