it needs to become a standard; news articles have footnotes that point to the referenced material.
It's common practice in academic circles and needs to become common practice in #News.
It also provides attribution to the original authors, a prime principle in the Free/Libre Open Source Software business model.

It is only interesting and worthy of sharing if it true and maybe in the past we could assume such but in todays world we need to see the facts otherwise it has to be treated as creative #nonfiction, a story with a moral.
It's sad that our world has de-evolved this way.The rise of fake-news is deceiving us instead of entertaining us but we all have to pay a price to fix it and the sooner we start the less the bill will be.
I am glad we can have this friendly discourse.

@mral @meredithw Sorry I think that's overly simplistic. There's a reason "stories with a moral" are popular in both secular and spiritual circles.

Stories are useful learning tools for people to see a situation from another point of view - often one that doesn't threaten them in the same way as a more on-the-nose narrative involving them directly.
This might be a description of events that really happened, but it serves a useful purpose none-the-less.
