Dividing Line

Stand on the raging shore, on age‐black cliffs,
as dawn breaks clouds, and shines
its gentle ire,
across the western ocean, at a storm
that tears the sky, to howl
the cold wind's pain.

I feel so old, so tired, facing this gale.
It rages through the years,
eats cliffs to sand;
its teeth, the roaring tides – æons’ desire,
beneath the sky’s regret
for lives long past.

But shall these waves break through time's rock-hard wall?
Do hungry waters claim
their fill of land,
returning it, into the ocean's womb?
And shall our lives be joined,
again, as one?

My hope flies with the dawn, toward the line
of sky and sea; beyond,
into the night.
And, when I am dissolved, I will traverse
the darkest shores of death,
to find my love.
