Vietnamese breakfast that isn’t pho or rice is just, ‘1800s French breakfast, but add soy sauce’.
I adore it
(I don’t adore the reasons why this is the case)
@skinnylatte Whatever the reason, as food travels around the globe, it changes to fit the local culture. On masto here, we had a discussion once about all the variations of pizza around the world. Some purist Italians were unhappy with that, but it's what happens: food recipes get changed in every locality. It's a complement.
@timo21 some woman in CA once laughed at me putting soy sauce on eggs. I was like do you not know where you live? Not putting soy sauce on eggs is weird here
And a good stew with smoked sausages and pork or beef always wins if you put a bit fish sauce to it!
People always ask me, "What's your secret ingredient?", when it comes to one of my stews. So here's the answer!
Also good for baked beans!
@timo21 @skinnylatte the idea that there even is such a thing as a ‘pure’ cultural idea, whether it’s food, clothing, or anything else is so weird. Especially something like eggs. Is there anywhere on earth where people haven’t always eaten eggs and developed their own egg-based dishes?
