#RightToRepair will become an absolute necessity in the near future. Having all the supply chain completely fucked up and prices all over increasing like never before, people will need to learn how to do stuff themselves instead of pulling a credit card.
Also, if you prefer to still follow twitter users without an account and without using a bot mirror for mastodon, you can use #Fritter, a pretty decent client for Android that doesn't need an account to work, available on f-droid
"what's your C migration plan?" by @wingo
Almost all software is connected to the net these days, and so it is all under attack. If you write software in C these days -- software with bugs, like any software -- you are writing software with undefined behavior, and thus, software that enables powerful state and organized crime actors to take advantage of your users.

Hi, we're the SDF Public Access UNIX System - a non-commercial collective of artists, musicians, DJs, coders, hackers and friendly creative types. Here are some pictures of SDF over the past 30 years (we're celebrating our 35th this year).
We joined #mastodon in May of 2016 migrating from #statusnet #gnusocial #pumpio #elgg & #diaspora
It seems that Mastodon is one of the best things to happen to the INTERNET. Welcome!

Ever since Be Inc. was bought out in 2001. A lesson I have taken to heart, is that it is dangerous to rely on technology stacks and services that are owned by corporations. You rely on them as little as possible.
Whenever possible you use floss so you can fork it if it gets abandoned or taken over.
Better yet, if it's community run, a coop, or a non profit with a clear governance strategy. It is much less likely to ever be taken over.
@petrichor
I just checked if Markor supports this, and apparently it can. :)
Okay, so: German court decided on Jan. 20th 2022 that sites will need to host Google fonts locally.
Visitors are otherwise entitled to receive 100€ in recompensation for Google fonts transferring IP numbers to Google servers.
Google uses fonts to track users, especially if they are logged into only one other server, where stored personal data might identify them.

kdl-rs 4.0.0 is out now! It's a complete API overhaul that features a super-fancy, formatting-preserving parser that lets you work with KDL documents without stepping on your humans' toes (and comments).
This is your chance to play with KDL in Rust!
Did you know there are centralized alternatives to the #Fediverse?
They are great!
Instead of being developed by volunteers for the community they are developed for millionaires with the sole purpose of getting them more money and influence over the "users".
They contain ads and algorithms, so you don't have to decide, what you want to see, but you get to see what makes you addicted, so you view more ads, buy more stuff and thereby support the capitalist system that we all love.
Instead of anonymity you get to enter your phone number and other form of identification, which totally helps against hate speech, right?
I could go on with advantages, but I think it's best you check them out for yourselves.
always in awe of this lad
- turn the internet into a hard drive by storing data in pings
- reverse engineering tetris to create an algorithm to store data in the configuration of tetris blocks on 8000 tetris games running in paralel
- attempting to store data on the chips of fancy covid tests?!
I've personally implemented software from scratch using RFC as a guide, in several different areas.
But a web browser engine? Forget it!
The "standards" now are nothing more than Chromium, WebKit, Gecko, and their individual quirks. How can there be a new engine?
7/8
The web is not "open" if nobody new can write a web browser engine. It's the illusion of openness.
8/8 Fin!
