The Pain of Perfection
In shadows cast by whispered blame,
A sixteen-year-old bears the shame,
An aunt and uncle, cold and stern,
In their harsh gaze, no love to learn.
Left on Christmas, a heart so bare,
By a mother lost in her despair,
He walks on eggshells, seeking grace,
But finds only scorn in this lonely place.
Kicked out at night, the world feels wide,
An hour later, they pull him inside,
Forty-two hours, no sleep, just dread,
Haunted by words that echo in his head.
A few jelly beans, a simple delight,
But Easter's joy turned into a fight,
“Your cousin’s dreams, you’ve ruined them all!”
He stands there trembling, feeling so small.
In a house that feels more like a cage,
He searches for warmth, but finds only rage,
Perfection’s a burden he cannot bear,
In a world that says he’s never quite there.
So he wanders the night, lost and alone,
A boy with a heart that’s turned to stone,
In the pain of perfection, he silently weeps,
For the love he craves, but never keeps.
