Good afternoon fellow PDA-interested weirdos. I wanna see the PDAs you recently acquired and/or dug out of your closet. What you got? #PalmOS #PDA

@xiled @kelbot
Ah, you have a Dana. I have one from that company stuck back somewhere.

@zudn @kelbot
Nice thing with the Dana is that I can plug it into a Raspberry Pi or other computer and use it as a keyboard while it charges via the USB port.

@xiled @kelbot
I think I got mine before USB. But I oughta check. Who knows.

@mathiasx @kelbot
Yes, you are correct! That is a Gemini, which I still use daily.

@xiled @kelbot I’m curious, what do you use it for?

I’ve got mine in a box. The slightly out of date Android (and the fact that I don’t use Android) and not learning the keyboard meant I never really used mine.

@mathiasx
I use mine mostly as a portable hand terminal/Linux desktop(Debian and kali via UserLAnd. termux is used as well) No Google login and the few apps I use are via f-droid or sideloaded. At home I use a full sized keyboard, mouse, ethernet, and monitor for full desktop experience. Personal Info Management (PIM) is via local nextcloud server/Davx5 and syncthing (mostly for vimwiki and files that don't play well with nextcloud. Also use TrackerControl to manage app traffic.
@kelbot

@mathiasx
The key thing for me was making appropriate workflows in how I use the I do a lot of typing on the go and in cafes for personal journaling and phosts, so the hardware keyboard was indespensable and also the crowdfunding discount for the wifi version was on point.
@kelbot

@xiled @kelbot @pixouls Ooo, that Dana. That and the TRS-80 Model 100 are the inspiration for what I’ve been collecting parts to build, if I can ever get out from my pile of other things…

@xiled Everytime I look at the Dana or similar devices like the AlphaSmart (might be the same device with a different name), I'm reminded of the eMate from Apple. I used to have one years ago, but it died and I just tossed it thinking it had no hope of repair. I should have known better back then. 😖 @kelbot

@xiled @kelbot A friend gave me a word processor similar to that laptop. Its a typewriter, and works on batteries. Has a serial port.

@xiled @kelbot oh, wow. That brings back some very 2007 workplace feels for me.

@xiled: There’s an early port of EmuTOS (open source Atari TOS replacement) for the 68k-based Dana!
