man, getting up and started with a dev environment on Fedora was way easier than on Ubuntu, and so far the system has been much more stable too...

@maiki this one was for ruby specifically. Ruby on Ubuntu was always kind of a kludge. This was easy to set up, - https://developer.fedoraproject.org/tech/languages/ruby/gems-installation.html - although I did have to add the redhat-rpm-config they mention on that page in addition to just the C Development Tools & Libraries in order to build native extensions for gems. Plus the desktop itself is more stable and newer. Overall I'm just very impressed so far
