Reading this about all the deep thinking and challenges overcome with Signal and getting more and more angry I can't delete a contact who's number had changed: https://www.wired.com/story/signal-encrypted-messaging-features-mainstream/
@feld it's been logged for YEARS and shows no sign of being addressed. I effectively have dead-contacts in my Signal contact list waiting like mines for me to accidentally write something sensitive. I tried wiping the contacts completely from my phone, but that STILL didn't do it.
@tomasino I love Signal in general but I wished I could add a user without having to trade phone numbers.
@tomasino Signal reminds me of a typical startup product.
First they did the hard work: very good crypto, and a testbed app.
Typically most startups die at that point because their product sucks and nobody uses it.
Fortunately, Signal's app has been improving since the $50M investment. Sure, they haven't fixed all the bugs, but it keeps improving week by week.
I'm a believer in Signal, and hope they will work around their biggest drawback: phone# as id
