“No one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.”

I kept forgetting to bring the peas to work for him, so I brought him home instead. He’s chilling with me here now, practicing his numbers while I try to learn systemd.
Douglas Adams and John Lloyd—The Meaning of Liff (1983)
In Life*, there are many hundreds of common experiences, feelings, situations and even objects which we all know and recognize, but for which no words exist.
On the other hand, the world is littered with thousands of spare words which spend their time doing nothing but loafing about on signposts pointing at places.
Our job, as we see it, is to get these words down off the signposts and into the mouths of babes and sucklings and so on, where they can start earning their keep in everyday conversations and make a more positive contribution to society.
* And, indeed, in Liff.

If you’ve been using NeoMutt, or (worse) if you abandoned Mutt for something like Thunderbird, you may not have realized that Mutt is being much more actively maintained again, by a fellow named Kevin McCarthy. It just had a release for version 1.14.6, fixing a bug that showed up only a few days before. http://mutt.org/
Take a look at some of the features new in v1.14 to get an idea of how far it’s come along: http://mutt.org/relnotes/1.14/
The much-loved sidebar patch, for example, has been merged in for a fair while now—that particular feature is not my cup of tea, hence its absence from this screenshot, but others consider it indispensible.
Come home, li’l doggy!
“It appears that "sperm" is supposed to be a user-provided function…but this isn't clear, and trying to do an internet search for "sperm" to find if this function exists somewhere is extremely unhelpful.”

A classic, due for periodic review: https://stilldrinking.org/programming-sucks
Every programmer occasionally, when nobody’s home, turns off the lights, pours a glass of scotch, puts on some light German electronica, and opens up a file on their computer. It’s a different file for every programmer. Sometimes they wrote it, sometimes they found it and knew they had to save it. They read over the lines, and weep at their beauty, then the tears turn bitter as they remember the rest of the files and the inevitable collapse of all that is good and true in the world.
