Are there people that left Microsoft #GitHub but that are still #mirroring their repos there?

I'd be interested in knowing precisely what this entails:
1) do you still have to push commits manually there or are there webhooks to do this automatically?
2) are issue trackers/PRs still available on the #mirror repo?
3) could you convert you old repo into a mirror or did you have to delete it, then recreate it?

I'm considering moving to #SourceHut entirely but I'm a bit afraid of losing issues/PRs

I prefer to self-host #Gitea, and as far as a hosted #SaaS solution, cannot say enough good things about https://sr.ht

You can mirror or migrate anything with Gitea where #repos are concerned, make it your #origin or not, and if you were once at #GitHub you can link your Gitea #issues_tracker there.

Since GitHub is the defacto modern equivalent of what #Sourceforge and #Berlios used to be, people tend to use it as a #directory and is the first place many look when searching for #FOSS projects.

For that reason, I would recommend that no matter which system or service that you host your projects with, that you also create a corresponding #repo at both GitHub and #Gitlab that, if for no other reason, serves to act as a pointer to where the projects are actually homed

In other words, treat GitHub like it's the new #AltaVista, #Yahoo, #Bing, or #Google, for doing software searches πŸ˜‰

I hope that helps! :)

Not true.

Buy a #DID and install #Linphone or something comparable from F-Droid.

Everything you actually need such as contacts, calculators, calendars, file managers, cameras, and galleries can be found there, and much, much more. Checkout:

https://www.simplemobiletools.com/

For email, #FairEmail is really awesome. Also available on F-Droid. See my earlier review here or on G-Droid.

In the future, you should #backup your data - and not in Google. Keep those #passwords and other #keys backed up too so you don't lose that #shit again - #KeepassDX works flawlessly on #Android for that, and #syncs well with #KeepassXC, supported #cross_platform on all #desktop OSes.

Now all you need to do is make sure you're always connected to #WiFi so you can make and receive #phone calls and have #Internet access for all of your other apps. For that, you can get yourself a so-called #MiFi puck and carry that around in your pocket everywhere you go as your WiFi #Hotspot. You can get one with unlimited #4G that respects your #privacy here:

https://calyxinstitute.org/membership

Best of all, everything I've listed is #FOSS.

I hope that helps! :)

I'm not into polls at all.

I'm more into consensus.

I like this graphic, but there was another one with sightly thicker black lines (I think) that might work better in web graphics.

And there's no *official* anything, really. Coz ActivityPub is a W3C thing, and they would likely be the body to settle on a logo officially, IMO.

I don't personally see the Fediverse as a people thing. I see it as a machine thing. So this topology graphic adequately conveys the concept to me :)

OMFG!

What's that thing that Ron White says? Oh yeah, "Stupid goes all the way to the bone".

There are very few problems in life which, with the appropriate amount of high explosives, cannot be solved. This is one of those few:

Never forget, we put two men on the moon with 8k of memory 🀘😎🀘

Also (and I have a couple of these, not counting the spare motherboards I have as well), the original #IBM_5150_PC had a 64k motherboard, and a #DIN_connector for a cassette deck that you could load programs from and save to, running the #ROM_BASIC operating environment if you didn't happen to purchase either #Gary_Kildall's CP/M or #Tim_Paterson's IBM PC DOS v1.01

Here's a couple of my all time fav quotes:

"IBM wanted CP/M prompts. It made me throw up." - Tim Paterson, creator of MS-DOS.

And...

"Ask Bill why the string in [MS-DOS] function 9 is terminated by a dollar sign. Ask him, because he can't answer. Only I know that." - Dr. Gary Kildall.

Now that #Fedilab has become pretty much the #defacto standard Android app for most #Fediverse usage, supporting #Friendica, #PeerTube, #Pixelfed, #Pleroma, and #Mastodon; with multiple account support on those platforms and cross boosting capabilities; it's probably time to revisit the built in, #one_touch #translation feature it has:

I am quite happy with this setup. I just need to get a C128 down here and I'll be good....

@drq

It's not any sort of pentagram, it's an accurate depiction of network topology in the Fediverse, and it's the current defacto representative graphic as well as one that hasn't really been perceived as anything non-secular to any significant degree, Although it does resemble the overtly geometric symbology of the psychedelic drug subculture:

@nestort@mastodont.cat

I'm just not into that stickman abstraction at all.

I do however, like this:

Agree whole heartedly.

Although we configure our #FediverseClient #Fedilab to automatically switch #youTube links to an #invidious one served over #Tor, we always post links to videos through an invidious instance.

Its a basic case of growing awareness for more #decentralised and freedom-respecting systems.

@danie10

The most excellent #Fedilab app supports #Friendica, #GNU Social, #Mastodon, #Peertube, #Pixelfed, and #Pleroma in a single multi-account platform, including cross-Posting, special timeline following, Invidious and Nitter integration, one touch translation, and much much more.

I've included links to the Home page, F-Droid repo, and several HowTo #videos.

Out of the box it's is simple and straight forward to use, but it's also highly customizable and powerful for the more demanding and discerning user.

It is by far the most full featured #Fediverse client for #Android devices and is free of any sort of hard coded censorship, blocking, or crippleware built into some of the other current apps.

#Big_FOSS:

A great way to help ensure the protection of your personal #privacy though the #advocacy of #FOSS and the #Fediverse is to avoid providing links to monolithic silos like #YouTube and #InstaSPAM from within the Fediverse.

Using tools like #Bibliogram and #Yotter, or #Nitter and others, posting links to videos and other content through these FOSS tools instead.

For example, here's a YouTube video on how to use #Invidious, and I've posted the link through Invideous itself to demonstrate how you too can help in making a difference:

https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=JvJVvP5JIgs

Of course, uploading videos, photos, songs, and podcasts directly to instances in the Fediverse itself using servers running #PeerTube, #Pixelfed, and #Funkwhale are ideal solutions, but when such content isn't available in the Fediverse directly the tools above do a nice job at protecting the privacy of others and yourself - without being tracked and quantified as a commodity to be harvested like a crop.

I'll be intermittently posting on #privacy and the principle that personal intellectual property is sovereign in this series. Big #FOSS here, and big ownership of your own personal data.

Take back that ownership, one kilobyte at a time . Let's start with why the warrant canary is so important, shall we?

Preview: #Cerulean is a new decentralized #microblogging platform with real promise and #security!

#Easy_Peasy with Twatter or HN/Reddit style views/threading/forking.

Okay then, so I've been a huge #Matrix fanboi and advocate for a few years now.

I know that a lot of folks like signal, and it's a kewl and secure e2e protocol and all, but I've never been comfortable leaking my phone numbers to people I would prefer to have a strictly online relationship with, and not open myself to phone calls from them - especially coz I work internationally with many folks with whom I do not share the same time zone.

Okay, it's prolly best if I just post the link, right?
