Rewrote Left from scratch again, it usually takes me 2-3 times before getting things right. Orca took 2 full rewrite before I found a way to write the assembly in a readable/maintainable way.

I should probably promote a book or something, but I'm gonna go talk to the rats instead. :ratstand:

Monopoly as usual:
Google's Unfair Performance Advantage in Chrome

#Google Chrome for #Android has a feature that gives Google Search an unfair advantage over its competition. It reserves a performance-boosting feature for it - so other search engines will always have a slower startup.

ed(1)'s infrequently used G/ command

while ed doesn't have confirmation like vi(1)'s

s/x/y/c

you can get similar results by issuing

G/x

which will stop at each line and let you type a command. Can do the first one

s/x/y/g

and ed will continue to prompt for a command for each match. And now you can use either just

s

to do the same substitute as before, or just hit <enter> to skip to the next candidate. This is about as fast as hitting y/n in vi.

plague, account policy public notice

My wife lost, at last count, 51 colleagues and hundreds of patients to covid.

This plague has RIPPED through poor communities.

Show up in my mentions with "it's just a cold" or "masks aren't proven to work" nonsense and I will mute you. No appeal.

Any and all answers are greatly appreciated. No judgement whatsoever. Asking this for research on a WIP article:

Do you #selfhost :flan_hacker: ? If so:

- What do you host yourself?
- Do you use an existing toolchain (Ansible/Puppet scripts, Yunohost, etc)?
- Do you run it bare metal, virtualized or containerized? Which one?

Boosts appreciated :flan_balloon:

How did we let the Web get to this point. All I wanted to do was read this blog post.

The Thumble is done!

github.com/cinnamon-bun/thumbl

A DIY midi controller made from microcontroller, keyboard switches, & laser cut plywood. open hardware, GPL firmware.

I added build photos and a Lessons Learned section at the end. This is surprisingly different to play than my previous instrument, the Waffletone - dancing thumbs instead of stationary fingers make a big difference. Next time I'll use flatter stiffer keys and spread them out a bit more.

We often get asked questions about coastal boat living, and it's something that we're not familiar with yet. When we bought our sailboat, we almost immediately headed offshore, we're only now learning about staying in one place.

The costs of long distance sailing are totally different than just staying close to shore and its facilities. The way we've setup the boat now, is almost overkill for simple coastal life.

We carry 6 months worth of food and water, but we can step on land at any time.

My kid just uncovered a bug in a program I wrote by grabbing my laptop and smacking the keyboard a bunch. Biological input fuzzing; a real-life chaos monkey.
