If you see the film in spite of your annoyances then your giving them no economic incentive to change their behavior.
@maiki Not urban fantasy but Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books tend to be incredibly progressive, egalitarian and LGBTQ friendly. Lots of female protagonists too. Though the older the book the better the quality usually. Her most recent stuff is fun but not as tight as her older stuff.

One that I read that reminded me *a lot* of Happy Potter, by worldbuilding: A Hero at the End of the World, by Erin Claiborne.
It hit that "modern magic" spot for me, and has a bunch of weird and compelling characters.
