So reports of Microsoft and Ubuntu patching of and have made me wary.

The intel microcode updates are safe, yes? They've landed in and therefore can be run on while NetBSD users wait on our OS patches.

@satchmoz The updated microcode just adds support for SPEC_CTRL (enabling/disabling IBP, for IBRS) and IBPB (IBP barriers) to the CPU. If the OS doesn't make use of these features, nothing changes.
