I'm having a few thoughts on social norms. I'm used to IRC and Usenet, where a channel or group is understood to be an open forum and, when people make a statement, it is seen as normal for anyone else, acquainted or not, to respond to it, even tangentially.

But on more social-network-style graph-based communications where the flow is determined by a follow edge between nodes or something like it, a lot of people find it disturbing or invasive to have strangers pop into their mentions to rebut, add, or jump off from their point.

I think this causes a lot of friction and expectation mismatches. I don't think either norm is wrong, though it is useful if people make it clear which one they're expecting.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm an IRC-type person. If I'm posting public or unlisted, I do not mind strangers to disagree with me, add their own twist, or give their own reaction. I will also respect the desire of graph people who don't want me to do that to them.

An invitation to play nomic on the fedi. Toggle visibility

Hello, fedi,

I'm interested in playing #nomic. Nomic is a sort of metagame which involves proposing and adopting changes to the rules of the game itself, so every nomic takes place under different rules eventually, and can incorporate all sorts of play dynamics. So it's more of a metagame system or game seed. It was thought up as a model of how legislation and adjudication works, where rule-making is itself subject to rules. More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomic

I've looked for ongoing nomic games on the fedi without finding any. So I'm ready to host my own. In order to play, I set up a DokuWiki with the initial ruleset. https://nomic.isonomia.net/#rules

If you're interested in joining, please register. So far we have only 2 players, which is not enough for a fun game. While registrations will remain open during play (at least under the initial rule set) it would be hard to get started with fewer than 4 or 5 players. https://nomic.isonomia.net/start?do=register

Choose whatever name you like, a fake email address, and enter a password. Then send me a DM telling me your username so I promote your DokuWiki user to the player group which has write access to the necessary wiki pages. If you don't set up a password, ask me to reset it and I can set a temporary one for you, but don't rely on email recovery because I haven't set up email on this server and I'm not sure it will work.

I hope we find enough players and have fun. Don't worry if you've never played nomic before. If a game involving writing up and voting on the rules of the game itself sounds fun to you, feel free to give it a chance.

Boosts welcome.

Presentación, tut largo. Introduction, long toot. Toggle visibility

Good morning. Just in case it's time for an #introduction.

I'm modulux, a civil servant, and I'm fascinated by #mathematics and #science, especially type theory and proof mechanization with systems like #coq.

I also like reading and writing fiction, especially #ScienceFiction and #Fantasy. Also #erotica, and I like erotic as well as non-erotic role playing.

My background is in computer science and law. Politically, I consider myself a communist, an orthodox Marxist.

Buenos días desde la Administración Pública.

Planteándome seriamente hacerme cuenta en EPSO y hacer los exámenes para la función pública europea.

Ganas de hacer otra cosa, supongo.
