RSS over everything. I know that folx in the #IndieWeb world are looking to make more IndieWeb reading clients (based on #ActivityPub, but I hope we take into account the power of RSS too.
@jackyalcine I use #RSS extensively, to track, process and index knowledge all the time. But on the rare occasions I am near folks that might do the same, they are all API this and that, and handing over the process to third-parties. I've even heard people make fun of RSS, which blows my mind. I :heart: RSS!
@maiki yeah, stuff like that gets me a bit wound up - it's like the need to take in raw data and do your own thing is not respected anymore.
@jackyalcine @maiki
Well you know - the definition of "nerd" (positively meant) has shifted to what you consume, not what you make.
Read Marvel/DC? Got a fancy LED lit computer? Obsessive about pop culture? Got some kind of technical computer job?
That's a Nerd.
Learning to program/building your own software/tools rather than use "free" online services? That's just... weird...
That said, I ended up using TinyTinyRSS and NewsBeuter (w. podBeuter).
@escN @jackyalcine I contrast that with #NewsBlur. I hardly use any features, but the main dev is a nice person, and is working with everyone to make reading RSS a great experience, rather than scratching their own itch.
Jacky's comment on filtering RSS made me think I should get more NewsBlur features a try, maybe spend the time training it.
