@swiley theres an IRC channel I think! What do you need help with?
@swiley you've basically used every feature, people star posts they like and some good mobile clients include tusky or if you're on Android you can just use the website in a browser since it's some new fancy notifications enabled thing and works just like an app. There's some bots for news and other nerd stuff. There's not much to this!
@kichimi I still havent used the lists, plus I want to find people to follow
@swiley ooh lists? Maybe I've got some stuff to learn
@kichimi Yeah, if they are what I think they are then it's a solution to one of the big problems with twitter I had
@swiley I never actually used twitter, this is my first twitter like experience. I take it you ended up with too much crap coming through? I've managed to get a nice balance between bots and people.
@kichimi Belive it or not, I'm pretty sure it was all people, but yeah, they tweated way too much and I would miss stuff from my freinds, I think twitter tried to fix it with some ML but that was just too creepy for me and I left
@swiley fair enough. I had this kinda with facebook, its why I just joined a load of groups and started relentlessly shitposting, I actually forgot what a normal conversation was like. This place has a nice feel to it that was just...gone on facebook. I still have it for pictures and stuff, future ones i get tagged in that is. I also didn't like how facebook started detecting faces though but its wayyy too late to do anything about that 😒
@kichimi What do you mean groups? Is that distinct from hashtags? My mom had me join facebook when I was 14 but I've hardly used it, some of my friends use it for event planning and sometimes it's neat to see pictures from my cousins on it
@swiley On Facebook you have public/private/secret groups that function like forums, you ask to join, you join and you get a newsfeed of all the latest posts to that group. It has basic threading that only goes 2 levels deep (think main post, comment, sub-comment, no more). That's where I spend 99% of my time on Facebook. It all gets intermingled into your main newsfeed as well. It's not a very intelligent way to have discussions so its mostly the same stuff over and over and over again.
@kichimi Ah it's a facebook thing.
@swiley Yeah, as you can see tho facebook has turned into cluttered garbage with every inch of whitespace taken. It didn't used to be that bad I swear.
@kichimi It never quite worked in lynx :p
@swiley oh nice, I like full crazy! I'm a web dev so I can't hide away in a terminal as much as I'd like to :(. A web dev who doesn't use a proper web browser would be a disadvantage...
@kichimi I feel like the world would be a better place if more webdevs used lynx haha
@swiley Simpler yes. Better, Yes. But not really... try ordering something from amazon with no images. Even if everything else was supported. I mean there's a certain argument to be made about descriptions for ease of access etc but todays internet is supposed to replace magazines and things, at least in the ecommerce world.
@kichimi elinks atleast will open them if you put feh in your mimcap, links and dillo support them directly (and amazon at least used to have a mode that worked really well with them, idk if it still does)
@swiley hmm that's fair enough. I'd like to say also at least a lot of sites like BBC are so accessability centric that they have anchor points for skipping the badly rendered crap and just going straight to content. I have browsed the net with lynx and they didn't used to bother ~10 years ago. Things are in some ways getting better for text only users.
@swiley just post and chat! Lurk!
