Just like to point out, apropos of nothing, that the turn signals, defroster, and user interface in my 1985 VW Jetta still work great, with all the original parts.

@khm yup, it’s all electromechanical. earlier VWs didn’t even have relays; they’d just use a motor and sliding contacts on a rod for the turn signals

@mia A relative of mine had one of the early Beetles with the pop-out flags. The HVAC in the Jetta is all vacuum-operated. At no point does journalctl cook any NAND flash.
