Plenty more meetings in the salt mine, so I don't anticipate getting anything useful done today, so another week down the drain. Not a single line of code written and only a few looked at. Not my idea of fun, really. But hey, a 3 day weekend, amirite?

I'm pretty fired up for the San Diego film festival this weekend. I'll dive into it right after I get back from hockey. Seventh Row recommended these 4 films:

1. [Worst Person in the World](sdfilmfest.com/team-member/the)
2. [Petite Maman](sdfilmfest.com/team-member/pet)
3. [We Burn Like This](sdfilmfest.com/team-member/web)
4. [A Beautiful Curse](sdfilmfest.com/team-member/abe)

I'll try to get those queued up for tomorrow and then see what else I can find. Should be fun!

We had another long session of *Halo 3: ODST*. Some (most) of these levels take too long to play, at least on the difficulty level we have set. Nearly 3 hours. Luckily, I had already done my 750 words, so I didn't have to squeeze those in under the wire. It's still pretty fun. A couple set pieces, where we had to defend against swarms of attackers, so not always the most exciting levels.

## Morning Mastodonians!

Well, that was one sad evening for Boston sports. Red Sox got hammered by the Astros to go down 3-2 in the ALCS. Bruins give up 3(!) in third to the Flyers to lose 6-3. And the Celtics lost in double overtime. Only the Revolution won for the local side. It was a pretty depressing ALCS game. Like the previous one, far too many men left on base, esp. in scoring position and let the starter off the hook. Sale looked good but was left in too long. Oh well.

Already hours and hours of meetings in the salt mine. It is one of the drawbacks with working for a UK company, where the overlap is their afternoon and our morning. The problem is I get completed exhausted and braindead after 2 or 3 hour+ meetings and the rest of the day is a haze. Heck, yesterday, I was even feeling physically ill. Not sure what the work around is. At least one of the meetings we talked about some pretty exciting technical challenges ahead.

I did sign up for another (virtual) film festival. I had such a great time when I did Sundance earlier this year, I had been anxious to try it again. The folks at [Seventh Row](seventh-row.com/) sent out an email saying 2 of their favorite movies were showing at the [San Diego Festive](sdfilmfest.com/festival-experi) and the cost for a 3 day ticket was only $29. So I jumped on board, took Friday off and plan on seeing as many as I can squeeze in this weekend.

Ugh. Oh well, there is always tonight for the Sox to get back on the winning track and for me to start a new streak.

Then it all went to, as they say, hell in a hand basket. While the game and the beer remained top notch, the Red Sox spit out the lead and got crushed in the end, in no small part to some terrible umpiring. And by the time I gave up on the Sox, it was nearly midnight and I hadn't finished my 750 words. I totally lost track of the time! I typed madly and even cheated by pasting in some text, but it was too little too late and thus my nearly 2 month streak ended in a whimper.

## Morning Mastodonians!

So last night about 10:30, I am thinking what a great evening it had been, just how I would like a week day evening to go. I had a nice dinner then headed down to the man cave and fired up the Red Sox game. I poured a nice glass of beer and sat down to play a great solo boardgame, *Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords*. And the Red Sox were winning, the beer tasted great and the game was a blast.

A frankly deadly depressing day in the salt mine yesterday. I seem to get stuck in these meetings that go on and on, just pertinent enough I need to pay attention. I don't have too many on the docket for today, so maybe I can get some work done. But first - meetings.

I have really been enjoying the crisp, dry sunny air of fall in New England these days. Took long enough for it to show up, but it is here in spades now. We also finally got our weather station hooked up, so it is fun seeing the real local temps and wind speeds. Need to buy a few more devices for it, like a rain gauge and maybe even a pool water temperature gauge.

Maybe my sluggishness had something to do with staying up late to watch the Red Sox demolish the Astros once again. Another grands slam! First time 3 have been hit in a single post season series. And they just kept piling on. I suppose I could have turned it off after about 5 or 6 innings, but it is too much fun to watch. Of course, the dog insisted on waking me up at 4:15am too, so that didn't help at all.

## Morning Mastodonians!

Kind of an ugly day at hockey. First time skating in almost 2 weeks, so I will blame it on that, but I was feeling a bit rusty and not very flexible. We lost, 6-3, but we didn't score our first goal until there was only like 5 minutes left in the game. I made some nice stops but the goals - ugh.

Time to head back into the dark and dreary salt mine. It was a good 4 days away, even if the 4 hour drive home was spectacularly annoying. Reminded me of why I don't go anywhere. I did put in for a bunch of vacation time around other holidays (Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas / New Years), which perked me up a little bit. But I must face up to the darkness now.

I did finish the first scenario in *Pathfinder: Rise of the Runelords*, which is great. I really enjoy the combo card play and die rolling. I picked up 4 more of the adventure packs for it and will probably grab the 5th and final one today. The odds of me ever finishing all 30+ adventures seem exceedingly remote, but my completion addiction can't be helped.

So no movie or TV watching. I am enjoying the Belushi biography co-written by his widow. Done in a unique style, with everyone chipping in using their own words. And plenty of pictures too. Spurred me on to buy the SNL Belushi retrospective. Also started *A Man Named Doll* by Jonathan Ames - dry, dark and droll. Perfect for me right now.

## Morning Mastodonians!

Back to the grind after 4 days away from the keyboard. I really haven't been close to it, save for my daily 750 words writing. Away to Lake George to meet up with many of the other US team for a couple days and then just puttering about the house during the weekend. Plenty of sports to watch, with the Red Sox in the playoffs, the Bruins season opening up in glorious fashion and the Patriots once more losing a tough one.
