## Morning Mastodonians!

Skipped out on playing D:OS2 with C last night. My digestive system has been a wreck for a couple days now and it was particularly bad last night, so I just couldn't face staring at a busy computer game for hours.

Another tough, intense, violent movie about a missing Native American woman. Jeremy Renner & Elizatbeth Olsen were amazing. Breathtaking scenary too. "Wind River" on Netflix - highly recommended.

As the yawning dark mouth of the salt mine appears in front of me, I was surprised to note I only have a couple meetings on tap. Meeting Monday isn't holding up its bargain! Perhaps I will get some work done in that case. Maybe even close out my one bug for the next release. Wouldn't that be special?

But nothing else on TV. Patriots lost a sad little game. Red Sox got swept by the Yankees. But the Ryder Cup was fun to watch though. The US mowed down Europe, playing plenty of brilliant golf. Always reminds me of the 1999 Ryder Cup, played locally. I watched while holding my first born, fresh out of the oven. Was pretty special.

Speaking of lukewarm, I watched the first episode of *Queen's Gambit* (yeah, I know, a little late in the game). I liked the chess parts but the psychological drama left me a little cold. My daughter A really loved it (and wants to learn how to play), so I will continue to give it a watch.

## Morning Mastodonians!

Another pretty quiet weekend, despite the fantastic weather. I didn't get any reading done. I did play a solo game of *La Granja* last night. You'd think I would like this game, with its multiuse cards, different systems and even a dice action part. But it has always fell flat with me. Figure I will give it a good shot. Still lukewarm after playing once, but I will give it another go tonight probably.

The salt mine was as dark and dreary as ever, but at least I spent less than 50% of my time in meetings. I have a smaller team reporting to me (thank Zeus!) so not as much management involved, which is fantastic. Still thrashed around with webrtc code, which isn't very enjoyable to be honest. But it is better than meetings. Going to escape early today - some errands and an early dinner date. So I'm looking forward to a good Friday.

Not much planned for this weekend. Weather looks pretty good, esp on Sunday. Probably just putter around outside - cut some wood, mow the lawn, that kind of stuff. I'd like to find some time to play some of my computer games, either Mad Max or the first Tomb Raider reboot. Maybe I will do that tomorrow. Hide out from everyone, even though my daughters are going to be home. Some days, you just want to be alone.

I just ordered a noise cancelling headset. It is the top rated one at Wirecutter and it was on sale at the manufacturer's site. Add in the discount code YOUR1MORE and free shipping, means the 1MORE noise canceling headphones were less than $110. I've been anxious to get a new pair since the dog chewed up my $300 Sony headphones, which were too big for exercising with anyway. Can't wait!

## Morning Mastodonians!

Another frustrating day between the pipes at hockey this morning. Like Tuesday morning, I felt good, was moving well and anticipating the play. But I still gave up 7 goals! They were all some tough chances but I still would have liked to make a few of those. We came back towards the end but fell short. Grrr.

Been trying to scrabble my way out of the salt mine all morning and, just when I think I have escaped, I get pulled back in. Still just mostly meetings and planning, which isn't what I like to do. But someone has to do it, right?

Had an amazing session at D:OS2 last night. We stepped into a battle and proceeded to win it, almost 3(!) hours later. We didn't save the NPC we were supposed to, but it was an epic battle nonetheless. One of those where new monsters keep spawning, first *Oil Voidlings* then *Fire Oil Voidlings*. The imagination on these Larian folks is pretty spectacular. And the flame animation is ... *chef's kiss*. But C says he wants to try it again! He's crazy.

## Morning Mastonians!

Just barely morning here in the northeast US, but morning nonetheless. Didn't have a great morning at hockey yesterday, so at least today starts off a little better. I did get some exercise, so at least there's that. I need to take Phineas, who celebrated his 1 year birthday yesterday, for a walk today. We've been walking up to the local gas station to pick up some snacks just to have a destination. It's a good little walk.

Just meeting after soul sucking meeting in the salt mine yesterday, and thus far today, although nothing is on the schedule for this afternoon, which is a relief. I need to buckle down and get some planning and writing done, if I am ever going to make any progress.

Finished another book yesterday, the very depressing yet enlightening *No Good Men Among the Living: America, the Taliban, and the War through Afghan Eyes*. It ends in 2010, ironicallly enough as everyone was contemplating a US withdrawal(!), but still a must read for anyone interested in that foreign disaster (which we all should be). And I also recommend *Farewell Kabul: From Afghanistan to a More Dangerous World*. Sigh. We will never learn.

Listen, if you get a chance, you have to watch *Retfærdighedens ryttere*. A Danish movie (aka *Riders of Justice*) starring the ever fantastic Mads Mikkelson, is a revenge movie, but by no means your average revenge movie. Full of humor, action and pathos, a really great way to spend 2 hours. Highly recommended! As is Ty Burr's email newsletter, *Watch List*, that turned me on to it.
