I work in IT which is the reason this house has:

- mechanical windows
- mechanical door locks
- no Alexa/HomeKit/Google
- no Internet connected thermostats, lamps, or whatnots
- a dumb TV
- wall switches for lights

TBH I don't even know what she meant by that and she didn't explain

My 7 year old niece upon seeing the HTs and various receive equipment on my desk: "are you a YouTuber?" LOL

You don't usually see too many of the rock crusher DX stations on 30m (it's why it's my favorite band among other reasons) but they're out today. Who wants to bet every US station calling is observing the FCC limit of 200 watts PEP???

If any hams want a show, get on 30m FT8. TT8SN is on from Chad (the African country) and everyone is going nuts trying to contact him. My whole screen is filled with people calling him lol

Made my first contact using the a little while ago. Worked KD5ILA on 40 meters PSK31 mode using fldigi. He was operating for Winter Field Day

Made a blog post about pulling down images from the International Space Station:

A blog post on this is forthcoming, but I'm very happy with my Pinebook Pro so far. However being on arm64 has brought me back Linux wise. Been doing a lot of compiling from source and just spent an hour getting my Brother laser printer to work! Talk about a blast from the past!

If you want the Linux-circa-2004 experience back, just try Linux on ARM!

* everything compiles slowly
* distro-hopping to find better hardware support
* oops, you need proprietary drivers for that
* forum posts hold the authoritative documentation *and* code for your distro

:D

Really the problem is Hugo is chock full of shit I don't use. It might be time for a new static site generator that prioritizes stability and simplicity over features

Most of my posting has been on gopher lately and now I remember why. Went to write a blog post on my www site and updated the static site generator I use (Hugo) at the same time. Turns out, the new version of Hugo utterly breaks the theme I use.

Awesome.

Guess I'll be redesigning my blog because my static site generator broke it

No one gives a shit about backwards compatibility outside of Enterprise spaces

I've found that even as someone who does a decent amount of frontend development, I don't have to chase the latest framework. In fact, if I ignore one long enough I never have to learn it. I did this with Angular. I used Backbone heavily and then went right to Vue on a new project!

In the US and want to listen to HD radio without buying a new receiver? Use that RTL-SDR I know you have and do it:

These $20 gadgets are infinitely useful

Neil Peart. Rush was one of my favorite bands growing up and his lyrics and drums were out of this world.

Banner weekend for stuff. Worked several new states on HF towards Worked All States, made my first PSK31 contact on 20m, and worked my first station on an FM satellite!

Successfully set up my Othernet (othernet.is) receiver today! Pulled down satellite radio, weather, news, and a few Wikipedia articles. Pretty cool!

Ended up moving to 17 meters and made a few contacts with far fewer superstations crushing the band
