Good afternoon and the wider ! I think I talked about this before, but in a different context. What do you guys think of like the , , and so on and so forth in this day and age? Do you wish computers all booted up to a screen? What do you think modern systems lack that older systems had plenty of? Do you run any homecomputers currently?

@fuuko I don't really have a desire for modern computers to boot to basic, but I do kind of miss how their was one major interpreted language (with many dialects) that you could use to target lots of machines.

I am fascinated by old magazines which came with basic code &whatnot.

I've long had a retro computing crush on the Cambridge Z88, where ive mostly admired it from afar.

Oh and Ive watched a few episodes of "The Computer Programme" in fascination from Archive.org en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Comp

@fuuko I don't want retro tech, I mainly just want to return to this very small window in time where hardware was super compatible and switchable, and extend that principle to smaller electronics, like phones and laptops.

I wish computers were made in a way that didn't hermetically seal the insides, so homebrew and repair culture extended to other devices.

Everything else I liked from the past I still have. ^_^

@fuuko I don't run anything like that anymore, but I did in my youth.

Many of those old computers are still genuinely useful.

I'm thinking specifically of the C64 for its SID chip, the Amiga for Protracker, the rock-solid MIDI timing on the Atari PCs...

@fuuko Def miss my old C64! Still love using a cli environment and do whenever I can...I direct result of a 3rd grader learning on a Commodore..
