"I want to be able to not have my phone on me, if I so choose. I want the battery to be allowed to die. I want the chance to be "disconnected" for as long and as often as I want. I want to be able to exist in the world without all the apps and barcodes and notifications and other mandatory distractions inflicted by the glowing black rectangle in my pocket.

Is that too much to ask?"

A small curiosity on this which may be worth sharing. I specified 'viral' as a potential infectious cause for a very good reason. Secondary, insulin-dependent diabetes can be rarely caused by mumps virus, which, along the parotid (salival) glands, may also affect other exocrine/mixed glands like the pancreas and the testicle.

In some cases an acute viral pancreatis may also determine the destruction of endocrine islets. This will ultimately lead to type I diabetes.

Following a toot by @ru , @m2m created the RSS feed for my newsletter Design, Digested.

I previously never considered the need to read a newsletter other than in an email client.

I've learned a lot ever since joining Mastodon! And I'm not done yet.

Good morning everyone I hope your all having a good day/night. Today I’m kind of in a deep thinking mood and I like to reflect on my life with motivational quotes and they have really helped me a lot in life. One of my favourite quotes is Never negotiate your value with anyone. You are worth it. You have always been, and always will be, worth it. I struggle with my self-confidence sometimes and this really helps me think about how I am worth it to myself and no one else can affect that.

Which of the following drugs is not derived from plants:

Unlike type 2 (adult-onset) diabetes, type 1 (a.k.a. juvenile, insulin-dependent) diabetes is an autoimmune disease, which involves the destruction of β-cells in pancreas endocrine islets, responsible for the production of insulin.

In diabetic children, β-cells get attacked by CD8+ T-cells and macrophages (white blood cells), which will wrongly recognize them as foreign (broken immune self-tolerance), following the development of antibodies targeting islet antigens, including insulin itself.

So it finally has come to this.

We (as in UNIX lovers) warned about how it was spreading and would probably come to an OS fully controller by a company: RedHat. Well, here's their blond puppet endgame.

Russia gets a bad rap for being backward, but women literally had more reproductive liberty in Soviet Russia *a hundred years ago* than they do in Republican Texas today. Just think about that for a moment.

This is the section of a single blade of grass observed under a microscope. the smiling faces are the channels through which the water is sucked.

Sharon Van Etten's new album "We've Been Going About This All Wrong" is the best I've heard from her in a while. Maybe even a favorite. Every song is good.

The pathogenesis of type I (juvenile) diabetes is:

The train then cuts back across the Cascades (having slipped over them once before at night) toward Eugene. As wonderful as the trip up the coast was, I think this is the most impressive part of the journey. We're taking the Pengra Pass route here -- following along the coast of Odell Lake, reaching Cascade Summit at 4,852 feet, and then heading downhill toward Eugene via the Salt Creek.

There are gorgeous views here. The train runs through Douglas Fir forests, over streams, under snow sheds, along lakes, and into canyons. Even in late April, there's still abundant snow to be seen. #Oregon

The conservative mindset, especially religious conservativism/fundamentalism/evangelicalism is a plague.

Today I participated to the Race for the Cure, a 5 km race inside Rome's historical center, born as a funding campaign for the research on breast cancer.

After many physical issues, this was the first time I realistically tried to challenge my body in 2 years. Completed it in 27 min. Definitely out of shape, but I'm pretty satisfied, and, above all, this year turned out more fun than ever.
