Remember that terrible token scheme that involved trashing hard drives and which inflated the SSD market for consumers. It all went terribly wrong.

And all we have are millions of dollars of e-waste to show for it. twitter.com/davidgerard/status

In 2014, I gave a talk called Free is a Lie at a run-of-the-mill, dime-a-dozen, Silicon-Valley-worshiping Big Tech/surveillance capitalism conference in the Netherlands.

Yesterday, I learned that they unlisted my talk on *spit* YouTube and that it might be removed.

Dear UK - do not extradite Assange!

The US charges are clearly vengeful, unjust, and punitive themselves. By extraditing him, you are also committing an injustice.

@schmittlauch Oh! I apologize, I forgot to read the paper before asking stuff. 😊

@schmittlauch
- Could this scale to every word, not just hash tags? The index could be limited to say, 100k of the most-recently used words.
- How did you decide on Haskell? Was it for software reliability? Is the type system not hard to use?

Again, thank you for your work in this critical gap in the Fediverse. I wish I could help, but I have no Haskills :D

@schmittlauch Thank you so much for your work! I am also painfully aware of this problem in the Fediverse - content is organized by users, which are a mixed bag, instead of by topic - which are what interest people.

I have a few questions:

- in your presentation, you say that each hashtag has a specific server responsible for it - shouldn't it have some redundancy? Perhaps the gov could take down that server; how fast would a new one get selected automatically?

The EU is standing at the crossroads: following in the footsteps of recent disastrous Internet legislation or putting users back in control of their online experiences? EFF has the answer. #DigitalServicesAct eff.org/deeplinks/2020/07/effs

@andyc Sorry, I was a bit terse.

I did share your enjoyment, and congratulate you for asserting independence!

I get the same empowered feeling when writing on my self-hosted blog - the Big Data companies don't get my content, but the middle finger. Wanna mute/kick/ban me? Take it with my ISP! Ha ha!

Undercut tyrannical planned obsolescence! Keep fixing stuff!
