Swaps around the positions of D, T, E and K. Claims to provide 60% of the benefits of switching to Dvorak, and a possibility to incrementally go from QWERTY to Dvorak.

Something nice to put in your init.el:

(global-unset-key (kbd "<up>"))
(global-unset-key (kbd "<down>"))
(global-unset-key (kbd "<right>"))
(global-unset-key (kbd "<left>"))

Break that bad muscle memory.

Change my view: 72 or 80 chars are too short for commit summary lines that are any good.

Commit messages are easier to read in a dense one commit per line log view when you precede them with the file and/or the logical component they affect. But even without them, a 72 char limit may be way too limiting.

I looked around a bit but couldn't find any stats that analyse breakdown of browser users by OS. But I wonder what % of FF users are Linux users. There is this data.firefox.com/dashboard/har but it looks unrealistic. Maybe distros disable telemetry/analytics by default?

@cadadr Yep - glossy, global brand is often a vote for mediocrity and "you're not a name, you are a very special number*"

The darker part of it is the terrible bandwidth causing every operation to take ages.

Did you know most file managers on Linux support a ".hidden" file in your home directory?

It works pretty much as gitignore does: it hides everything that you list in this file, one file/dir per line.

Biggest mistake you can ever do: moving from a local provider of any service to a global one.

Just switched my family's home internet from a local provider to Vodafone because bigger bandwidth. They didn't give the bandwidth they promised, so we now have the same speed with enforced govt censorship as a bonus and reaching the call center so that we at least get the promised 50Mbps took 50 man minutes from two distict phonecalls.

@Shufei I think the first time I realized this was when I watched Winters Bones. Having grown up on US propaganda it’s hard to know what it actually looks like no matter how many sad songs you listen to.

This is why cyberpunk and such piss me off. There is nothing romantic about poverty. Nothing glorious about living on the street, making do with scraps. It’s fear and cold and your body ages at a rate which would ruin most who walk past to their Google bus ride home. You become hunted by vicious scum in or out of uniform. You futily try for a shred of dignity, while the mere days convert finding basic hygiene into improbable adventures.

If you think most of the USA is the “first world”... Ha, you’re in for a shock.

A quarter of the USA has long ago resigned into a material despair largely untouched by the perfunctory social services ever reamed out by budget shortfalls. Another half of the USA populace barely hang on to a livable facade under mountains of debt voodoo. All are about to be cast into the dark winter cold.

Landlords and money barons... These are vile demons from perdition. Rot them all.

@tomasino In other news, an absurdity: it costs $2400 to renounce your citizenship. Even your last action of "Liberty!" and "Freedom!" in the USA (at the time of renunciation) is one that comes with a hefty price tag attached. "USA! USA! USA!" indeed.

I thought I would share how I, as someone who is visually impaired use my iPhone.☺️

Yes, Jeff Bezos could unilaterally end all kinds of poverty and homelessness issues, probably with a few key presses, but the planet brain version is that even the world's richest oligarch is a puppet of the general forces of capitalism. If he gave away his wealth then some other oligarch would rise to replace him and without more systemic changes the inequality would soon return again.

Overcoming the current paradigm is not so much about getting rid of Bezos - as tempting as that may be - it requires more general changes in attitudes and beliefs. A loss of faith in the old gods.

I would massively :heart_pride: the ability to block individual toots, or entire threads that I've NOT participated in on Mastodon.

Without necessarily having to block the authoring accounts.

Just sayin'.
