Spotify is buying up all the popular podcasts and removing them from the commons in order to drive you to their platform.

Podcasts have somehow stayed open access, built on standards, and just (mostly) work. Moving them to a proprietary platform just so a few people (ie: not you) can make money is bad for everyone who isn't making money. (ie: you.)

@readsteven Also as a Spotify user I want to note that their Podcast interface is worse than manually visiting pocast websites and downloading sound files, so if they get a monopoly in this, podcasts will probably die.

I don't get why they bother with podcasts, really. It's a niche to begin with. Sth that hardly makes money unless it's a vlog on YouTube and/or has good support on Patreon or like. Feels like some manager playing games, detached from the real world.
