Someone on my instance got a DM from a fedichick from a server we have limited. How is this possible?

@admin1 A limit is only one way and basically useless.

Same here. Limiting a server does not prevent unsolicited DMs (contrary to our initial interpretation of the docs).

@admin @admin1 Limiting a server limits your users from discovering accounts on that server. It doesn't limit accounts on that server from interacting with your users at all.

@admin1 a silenced server is not the same as a blocked one.

However, when you limit a server, it becomes invisible in your instance. Even profiles that don't ask for confirmation of new followers will receive a request to accept or not accept those on a limited instance.

DMs will always be filtered. So silencing is a filter, not a block.

@admin1 messages from limited server will not be dropped, but they will go through the user's configured notification filter, which defaults to being filtered but can be configured to be dropped altogether
