One of the best tools ever is ssh. I use it to do a remote dump of my cloud server to my laptop at home. Without it, I'd have to rely on my cloud provider's snapshots and those, while useful, cannot be downloaded.
ssh and socat
@indie Never tried socat. Might have to look into that one.

$ ssh -o ProxyCommand='socat - socks4a:<proxy-name>.server.net: %h:%p' firstname.lastname@example.org
