@Snowcrash I wouldn't recommend a kit, personally.

If you're going to run it headless, you just need an SD card, a case, and a power supply. For what I'm proposing a pi 3 would work fine.

Pi, power, case, SD card. That's it.

A while ago I wrote a thing about running an old school BBS over tor: github.com/ajroach42/Docs/blob

If you know anything about tor or BBSs, would you mind giving me some feedback on it? I'm going to polish it up and publish it today.

In two days I take my first born to start college. I am excited for the experiences to come as a parent. We all like to see our children take major next steps in life. But I am surprisingly depressed at the pending removal of my first born from my everyday life.

Have been really distracted and away from mastodon for a while. What's the latest thing capturing your attention these days?

:dopeswim: Did you know?

:dopefish: The Netscape Fishcam was the second public #webcam on the web. It went online in 1994 and it let you watch the Netscape office aquarium via a secret shortcut in Netscape Navigator by holding CTRL+ALT+F. I was a fan!

The camera survived the closure of Netscape and it's still online today as The Amazing Fishcam.

:dopeburp: Go on and take a look!

Decided to ditch Hulu Live TV because it was a massive rip off, and picked up Disney+ for the Mandalorian series, and it was fucking great.

Considering option for custom domain mail hosting. There is gsuite of course, I could also do it through ProtonMail who I also use. Who do you like to use?

@Snowcrash This is funny, I started writing a post looking back at my first days in Emacs and org-mode.

I can talk your head off about writing in #emacs and #orgmode.

Go ahead. Ask me. I dare ya. :D

@Snowcrash that's yet another territory I'm familiar with. I used to teach, and we had chromebooks. For years (especially when I was broke) I had chromebook in which I did all my writing in.

Later, I opened one apart to remove the safe-boot screw (forget how it's called) and go full linux. It left scars. I called the chromebook "Scarface." I still have it, and as far as I know it still works.

@Snowcrash I just recently learned how to edit and access the shell in emacs

Been writing my blog/journal posts using and have to say that learning emacs in bits and pieces, answering questings like "How do I do x?" while actually doing something seems to be the way to go over just trying to power through a tutorial/book on emacs. Initial observation, I like the way the spell checker functions.

Can anyone recommend a good whole disk image/restore to/from USB tool? Something that will make a stand alone USB I can boot to and restore my whole disk image. I'm considering trying one of the Neverware CloudReady distro but it wipes the entire disk.

@Snowcrash Site is using a Jekyll theme and is hosted on GitHub pages.

Well I thought I’d share a passion project of mine, I love doing things outdoors like hiking and camping etc. so I started outdooradventurejournal.com to share adventures, gear reviews etc. open to anyone to contribute to (see about page). Will never had ads, it’s not there to make money.
