@Ricardus It's a software device that looks like a microphone to ALSA but just plays test tones. I thought it would be useful for debugging.
@zuz Oh, gotcha. I use linux audio too. Ardour, and Mixbus. I'm a recording guy.
@Ricardus Cool, I would like to learn Ardour. Any recommendations on A/D converter hardware for hard disk recording?
@zuz Well, there are a few options. I am not an expert in this area because I mostly mix and master in ardour. People send me already finished track, so I have very little A/D in my home studio, and when I record locally I record analog. But the RME stuff is great. I know there are resources online as well. And you can always join the #ardour channel on Freenode with questions.
@Ricardus I'm working on creating a virtual capture sound card driver (i.e. dummy microphone) in Linux to play audio test signals.
