Apple donated between US$ 100 and US$ 249 to the FreeBSD Foundation in 2020. Almost all of it, probably in matching donations.

Even Microsoft gave more. Probably in matching donations as well. And that's not counting Google, Cisco or Netflix.

And that is all you need to know. When will multinationals finally respect the fact that the vast majority of today's tech landscape is based on open source?

@ParadeGrotesque particularly gross since all of their flagship operating systems are directly traceable to FreeBSD for the UNIX core. MS kind of gets it because I think their network stack is based in part on the BSD one, and Cisco certainly has a good chunk of FreeBSD too.

Anyhow, it's a gargantuan fuck you to the open source communicty IMO.

Yes, Windows used part of the BSD TCP/IP stack, but that was a long time ago. I don't think there is any BSD code left in Windows these days.

Cisco... is another ball of wax.

As much as I prefer BSD over GPL, how is this a surprise to anyone? If its free for them to take, theyll take it freely, especially corps that arent known for their ethics.
