Soon, I'm going to start a webfic serial called "Endless Nights at The Mansion".

It has:
-comedy
-steampunk
-fantasy
-"mafia"

And I'll try my best not to turn it into creepypasta; That's what I _hate_. But mild classic (and not psychological) horror would be fine, I guess. And I'll try to post 3-4 entries per month.

What do you guys think about it? It's my first ever serial writing.

Why IBM’s “Dear Tech” ad is so enraging.

Technology hasn’t fallen short of its promise. Tech companies have.

This is a public service announcement.

If your job uses Slack, please remember that the administrators that have been configured can view any channel and download all files and all information published, including channels that are "private" or between 2 individuals.

Your discussions are not secure and can be snooped upon, even private conversations.

In other words: there is no privacy on Slack. Period.

This is the end of this public service
announcement.

(Don't ask how I know that)

I really hate it when authors resort to magic as an explanation for things. It's probably why I could never muster enthusiasm for Harry Potter, and it drives my girlfriend crazy.

It's just this unsatisfying feeling, that nothing in this magical world has any relevance or makes any sense.

You can roast me now.

~=8 Character Passwords Are Dead=~

New benchmark from the Hashcat Team shows a 2080Ti GPU passing 100 Billion password guesses per second (NTLM hash).

This means that the entire keyspace, or every possible combination of:
- Upper
- Lower
- Number
- Symbol

...of an 8 character password can be guessed in:

~2.5 hours

(8x 2080Ti GPUs against NTLM Windows hash)

Free, subsidized world-wide shipping for products from China is a price we just can't afford to pay.

On the contrary, we're overpaying for this by further destroying our environment and economies.

Mind you: I'm not trying to bash Chinese products here. But please, let's not pretend shipping something worth $5 across the entire globe is something you'll get for free.

@solderpunk (in response to you post) Have you heard of Purism 5? It might be the solution to your problem. (As long as you are still willing to own ethical _new_ tech)

It is an OSH by Purism.

It doesn't make sense to simultaneously speak out against Apple for their complete control over what users can and cannot do on their devices, and praise them for revoking Facebook and Google's enterprise licenses used to implement deeply disturbing surveillance programs.

Both are wrong. Facebook and Google shouldn't be doing what they're doing, and users should be able to opt out of Apple being the gatekeeper for their devices. Consequently, Facebook and Google should be able to run whatever apps they want on their own devices without Apple's blessing.
