XBAND modems for the SNES and Sega Genesis worked as passthrough carts that patch code for selected games allowing multiplayer over phone lines in a way that emulated controllers connected locally. The service is long gone, but people have been reverse-engineering the protocol!
Very nice! I assume that's yours? I've been interested in XBAND for ages...there is at least one surviving video of someone using the service and I believe the reverse engineering team has managed to get it to partially work? I swear I saw a demo...
@clarus Yep, I ordered these after I saw the documentary about the service, recently picked up the Saturn one too. There are a few videos out there, including the one from the reverse engineering team. There is some software to run your own XBAND server (with minimal support), but I haven't tried it yet!
